The main goal of the project is to provide accessibility to dermatological expertise for rural communities that do not have access for both geographic or socio-economic reasons.
Foundation Dermatologia Comunitaria Argentina is a non-profit organization whose principal objective is to develop educational programs to prevent, detect and treat common skin conditions.
“Jornadas” (working days), are organized in different rural areas in order to offer free dermatological clinics where specialists work with local practitioners.
On clinic days, other actions include:
– Lectures on prevalent dermatosis for general practitioners and healthcare providers
– Photo-educational workshops for school children and teachers, using online educational material
– Atopic dermatitis workshops for patients and their families.
Since the beginning of the project in 2009, 2,900 patients from the Neuquen Province had access to the initiative.
The applicant will use the grant to extend the activities of Dermatologia Comunitaria Argentina in other provinces and cities, to publish photo-educational and atopic dermatitis workshops material on a website in order to allow other dermatologists to use this material, and to develop more workshops on others prevalent dermatosis like pediculosis, scabies, etc.
